The goal of School Therapy Services (STS) Program is to provide occupational therapy and physiotherapy services to children in schools; to support inclusion of students with special needs in educational settings, and to enhance the students’ abilities to access, participate in and benefit from the educational program.
A referral for School Therapy Services may be initiated by the school when a need for service is identified. Parents are required to provide consent to have their children receive service. The eligibility criteria and frequency of service are determined by the service contract.
Therapists work as part of a school team to provide individualized programming for children, providing assessments, intervention plans, consultation and monitoring of programs. Therapists also collaborate in developing the Individual Education Plan (IEP) where applicable.
Therapists train and support school staff to carry out programs with children to ensure ongoing practice of the skills throughout the school day.
